Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What if I want to join, but can't find an advisor with similar interests?
Finding an advisor that matches your interests -- at some level -- is important. If you cannot find such an advisor, then it may indicate that we do not have an advisor, at this time, who could adequately mentor you and provide an enriched learning experience. Should this occur, we encourage you to check back the following semester to see if new advisors are available.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Do I have to work on my advisor's projects? Or can I do something else?
Yes. If you get accepted by an advisor, there is an expectation that you will work on their projects throughout the semester. While projects may change or evolve, these are priorities of the advisor and the group at large. That said, you may propose new or independent projects to your advisor, of whom will take them under consideration and make a final decision.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What if I don't get accepted by an advisor?
If you do not get accepted, please know that this is NOT anything personal against you. Often we have more demand than available spots. In fact, we thank you for your interest and/or for contributing to our mission, work, and culture as a current student in the group. Regardless, we encourage you to re-apply the next semester, should you still have the desire to.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can international students apply to join?
Yes. We have a diverse group of students primarily located across the United States, though welcome international students. Every member works remotely to accommodate this.
