Scholarship Opportunities
The Integrated Research Literacy Group provides both need- and merit-based scholarships for students in our group, thanks to the generosity of individuals, families, and organizations. Scholarships are awarded each semester and typically range from $1,000-5,000 USD, depending on available funding as well as the number and competitiveness of applicants.
Applying and Terms
Incoming and current students at the IRLG are eligible to apply for scholarships. (Applications open at the end of each semester.) Students can apply and be considered for more than one scholarship at a time, though only one may be awarded. Scholarships are terminal, meaning they do not renew after the award semester. Nonetheless, students can continue re-applying.
Research Opportunity Award
The Research Opportunity Award (ROA) supports students in financial need to pursue research at the IRLG. Whenever possible, recipients will be selected from "untapped" populations, including people of color, immigrants, and members of the LGBTQIA+ community. Incoming and current students at the IRLG are eligible to apply, whether at the undergraduate, post-baccalaureate, or graduate level. Awards typically range from $1,000-2,500 USD and are mailed to recipients via check. Applicants are encouraged to describe how they would benefit from the award and/or what they hope to gain from a funded research experience at the IRLG. Personal stories are welcomed.
International Research Award
The International Research Award (IRA) supports students from countries outside of the United States to pursue research at the IRLG. This award was established to encourage international research experiences, collaborations, and networking.
Emerging Scholar Award
The Emerging Scholar Award (ESA) recognizes students of outstanding intellectual ability as well as leadership and research potential. This merit-based award is intended to support recipients in pursuing an independent project of their choice at the IRLG. Incoming and current students at the IRLG are eligible to apply, whether at the undergraduate, post-baccalaureate, or graduate level. Applicants are encouraged to describe their proposed project in as much detail as possible. Specifically, they should outline their project type, research question, timeline for completion, and resources needed. If funding is required, a line item budget proposal should be included. Resources and funds from the IRLG will be allocated on a case-by-case basis, if applicable.
Young Investigator Award
The Young Investigator Award (YIA) recognizes graduate students of outstanding research potential, of whom represent tomorrow’s leaders for advancing science, education, and/or policy. This merit-based award is intended to support recipients in starting, continuing, and/or completing promising scholarly work. Incoming and current medical or doctoral students at the IRLG are eligible to apply. Applicants are encouraged to describe their proposed project in as much detail as possible.
